Dear Colleague
I have the great pleasure as Chair of the AACP Board of Directors to welcome you to the AACP’s annual consultant pharmacy conference, ConPharm’10 which will be held at the Grand Chancellor Hotel, Hobart from Saturday 29th to Monday 31st May 2010.
Since ConPharm was first held in 2005 it has established itself as one of pharmacy’s leading clinical seminars. For those of us actively involved in consultant pharmacy practice it is definitely one seminar that should not be missed.
Continuing on from last year’s overall theme of ‘Updating your knowledge and enhancing your skills’, the program for 2010 has been developed to equip consultant pharmacists with the up-to-date and evidence-based knowledge and skills necessary to practice at the highest level.
The ConPharm’10 program will cover topics such as:
• The National Medicines Policy and its relevance to accredited pharmacists
• Evidence for the prevention of cognitive decline
• Practical aspects of Anti Platelet therapy
• Reducing Benzodiazepine use-a panel discussion
• Novel treatments for neuropathic pain
• Making a difference-practical strategies to assist in the management of patients with dementia
• Complementary Medicines in Cardiovascular disease-what’s the evidence?
• Laboratory Tests-Magnesium
• ‘Finding Evidence-Recognising Hype’
An NPS interactive, small group program which will provide a valuable opportunity to discuss information needs relating to new drugs, including how to access independent information to support evidence-based decision making about them. This session will include an interactive case scenario which will involve a discussion of EBM principles, new drugs, and how to converse with patients about medicines decisions.
These topics will be supported by an expanded number of optional workshop activities. For ConPharm’10 the choices will include (the full list of workshops will be available on the ConPharm’10 website):
• New Drugs
• Tips for accredited pharmacists performing medication reviews for those with a mental illness
• E-MIMS Knowledge Update (Tips and tricks when using e-MIMS)
• RMMRs and QUM-making a difference in your Aged Care Facility
• Overcoming Psychological Barriers-developing strategies to ensure that GPs accept your MMR recommendations
Note that numbers will be strictly limited for several of these workshops. These popular sessions will fill early so my advice is not to delay in registering to attend.
Finally, as always, ConPharm’10 will offer a number of entertaining social and networking activities which I am sure will again impress.
Accredited pharmacists continue to provide highly valuable professional services to the community and your work contributes to the provision of improved health outcomes. We must continue our involvement in existing professional programs and embrace new ones which may be developed. Your attendance at ConPharm’10 will provide you with the skills and knowledge to implement these services at the highest level. I encourage you to attend ConPharm’10 – the clinical seminar for accredited pharmacists, those seeking to become accredited and for those seeking high quality up-to-date, evidence-based and relevant CPD.
I look forward to meeting you all at ConPharm’10.
Judy Liauw
Chair, AACP Board of Directors
